Abstract

Patients with suspected tumors of the parotid gland form a small but important group in clinical practice.
The role of radiologist is to conform or exclude a space-occupying lesion and if lesion is present, to demonstrate its site and extent, since this is impo¡þrtant in planning surgery or radiotherapy.
CT-sialography allows accurate localization of tumor within the parotid gland.
From Oct. 1985 to Oct. 1987, CT-sialography was performed in 14 patients with suspected parotid tumor.
The result were as follows;
1, Sex ratio is 7(male) : 7(female).
2. Benign tumors (5 cases) were pleomorphic adenoma (3 cases) and hem¡þangioma (2 cases).
3. Malignant tumors (5 cases) were squamous., cell carcinoma (2 cases), adenoid cystic carcinoma (1 case), mucoepidermoid carcinoma (2 case).
4. Inflammatory lesions were sialadenitis (2 cases), reactively hyperplastic lymph node (1 case) and mild dysplastic squamous epithelium with chronic inflammatory cell infiltrations (1 case).
5. Preoperative CT-sialography is very useful for demonstrating of tumor extent, site, nature (benign, malignant or inflammatory lesion) and also relationship of tumor to gland and facial nerve.
